End-use parts and short-run production

One part or tens of thousands, printed in production nylon on HP Multi Jet Fusion. For runs where an injection tool would never pay for itself, or the design is still moving.

What it is

Short production runs of finished parts, with no injection tool to pay for.

End-use parts go into service rather than onto a test bench: housings, brackets, ducting, trim, consumer products and medical devices. We specialise in low-volume production runs where the cost of tooling would be prohibitive for the numbers involved.

Most production work runs on HP Multi Jet Fusion in PA12 or PA11 nylon. It comes out watertight and isotropic, resisting heat as well as chemicals. Larger finished parts go on UnionTech SLA. As the first official HP partner in the UK, we have been running MJF for production since it launched.

Why print it

What additive changes about this job, against machining, moulding and waiting.

  1. 01

    No tooling to recover

Low-volume runs avoid the cost of a hard tool that is hard to pay back when demand is uncertain or the product may change.

  2. 02

    Thousands in one build

Many thousands of parts can be built in a single 12 hour MJF build, so volume work is practical.

  3. 03

    Parts you can bolt in

MJF PA12 parts are isotropic in X, Y and Z. They are watertight and resistant to temperature or chemicals.

  4. 04

    Variation at no extra cost

Sizes, branding and personal touches can change part to part within the same run.

  5. 05

    A bridge to mass production

Print the first runs while demand is proven, then move to traditional tooling if the volume arrives.

Questions we get asked

Something else? Ring 0330 229 0175 and an engineer will answer it.

How many parts can you produce?

One-off prototypes or tens of thousands of parts. Many thousands can be made in a single 12 hour MJF build.

PA12 or PA11 for production parts?

PA12 is the all-round choice for strong, durable, precise parts and has the lower material cost on large runs. PA11 is more flexible, for snap fits and parts that need to give.

What finishes are available on MJF parts?

Raw grey, cleaned on DyeMansion equipment; dyed black; vibro smoothed; or dyed black and vibro smoothed.
