ApplicationsRapid prototyping
Rapid prototyping in nylon and resin
Print the part, fit it, change the CAD and print it again, without a mould for every round. MJF nylon for prototypes that have to work, SLA resin for ones that have to look right.

What it is
Functional and visual prototypes, days after the CAD is finished.
Rapid prototyping turns a CAD model into a physical part quickly, so a team can check fit, form and function, or put an appearance model on the table at the design review. Each round is a print rather than a tool, so the design can change as often as the testing says it should.
We print prototypes on HP Multi Jet Fusion and on large-format UnionTech SLA. HP describe MJF prototypes that behave like the final part, because the same process and nylon carry through to production. SLA gives the smooth surfaces and fine features a styling model or a precision fit check needs.
Why print it
What additive changes about this job, against machining, moulding and waiting.
- 01
Iterate without tooling
Print a part, test its fit, revise the CAD and print the next version. No new mould for each round.
- 02
Find the problem early
A part in the hand shows fit, assembly, clearance and ergonomics problems a screen does not, before money goes into a tool.
- 03
Several versions in one build
One MJF build can carry several design options, or prototypes alongside finished parts.
- 04
Strong in every direction
MJF parts are isotropic, so a prototype is not weaker because of the way it was laid in the machine.
- 05
A finish fit for the review
SLA gives ultra-smooth surfaces, fine features and tight tolerances for high-end visual models or assembly checks.

Questions we get asked
Something else? Ring 0330 229 0175 and an engineer will answer it.
How quickly can I get an MJF prototype?
Raw grey MJF parts have a 4 to 6 day lead time. Dyed black takes 5 to 7 days, vibro smoothed 6 to 8 days, dyed and smoothed 7 to 9 days.
How large a prototype can you print in one piece?
Standard White SLA resin prints up to 800 × 800 × 550 mm. High Temp 220D prints up to 600 × 600 × 400 mm, with MJF nylon up to 380 × 380 × 284 mm.
Should I choose MJF or SLA for a prototype?
SLA where the surface matters more than strength, such as a styling model or a clear duct. MJF where the part has to be equally strong in every direction and work like the real thing.
Can you prototype a part if I have no CAD?
Yes. We 3D scan the object into a digital model, which can be modified, scaled or adjusted and then printed.
